ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • E-visas can be obtained online https://go-cambodia-online.com and it will take up to 72 hours to issue
  • The validity of e-visa is 3 months from the date of issue.
  • E-visa entitles people to single entry to Cambodia and visitors can stay there maximum 30 days from the date of arrival.
    With e-visa visitors are able to enter Cambodia through two international airports, namely Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap International Airport as well as overland ports: Cham Yeam (Koh Kong), Poi Pet (Banteay Meanchey) and Bavet (Svay Rieng).
    Holders of eVisas may leave Cambodia via any exit port.
  • Passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry to Cambodia.

The majority of passengers go to Cambodia to visit Angkor Wat. To get into the Angkor Wat complex, a permit and 1 passport size photo are required. The permit is purchased on entry (approx. US$40 for a 3 day permit). A photo booth is available on site for people who do not have photos.
NB. Tourists are strongly advised NOT to travel off into remote areas – check with the local police or tourist authorities.

WEATHER

Cambodia can be visited throughout the year. Two types of monsoons regulate Cambodian climate. From November to March a northeast monsoon, the dry one with little rain. From May until the beginning of October the southwest monsoon with heavy precipitation and a high degree of humidity. In between the two seasons the weather is varied. Maximum daily temperature is about 35° C in April, the hottest month; about 20° C in January, the coldest month.

TRAVEL TIPS

Electricity: Voltage in most places is 220v AC/DC. Socket sizes vary, so it is recommended to carry adapters.
Water: It is advisable to drink only bottled or distilled water.

Photography Restrictions: No objections – however it is always polite to ask when taking pictures of people.
Tipping: Generally, tipping is not expected in Cambodia but it is very much appreciated.
Vaccination Requirements: It is not necessary to get any vaccinations if you are visiting only big cities or main tourist locations. Anti-malaria prophylaxis could be useful if you decide to visit swampy territory at the border with Laos. Caution; avoid eating ice and raw fruit & vegetables sold on the streets. At the hotels you are free to consume any food including ice.
Dress Code Restrictions: Cambodians dress conservatively, so bear this in mind
Peculiar Customs to Observe: Greetings between Cambodians are dependent on the relationship/hierarchy/age between the people. The traditional greeting is a bow combined with a bringing of the hands together at chest level (similar to bringing hands together for prayer). If one intends to show greater respect the bow is lower and the hands higher. With foreigners Cambodians have adopted the western practice of shaking hands. Women may still use the traditional Cambodian greeting. The simple rule is to respond with the greeting you are given.
