WEATHER
Rwanda has a temperate tropical highland climate due to its elevation. Temperatures remain mild throughout the year, especially in Kigali. There are two rainy seasons and two dry seasons. It is a lush and green destination year-round, making it a haven for nature lovers and gorilla trekkers.
- Spring (March to May): This period marks the long rainy season, with heavy rainfall and lush green landscapes. Temperatures remain pleasant, around 20°C to 25°C, thanks to the high altitude, but outdoor activities can be disrupted by frequent showers.
- Summer (June to mid-September): Rwanda’s long dry season brings stable weather and mild temperatures, averaging about 21°C. This is the best time for gorilla trekking and exploring national parks, as trails are drier and wildlife is easier to spot.
- Autumn (October to November): The short rainy season arrives with lighter, more sporadic showers compared to spring. Temperatures remain stable, and landscapes are green and vibrant. Travel is still manageable during this time.
- Winter (December to February): A short dry season with light cloud cover and occasional light rain. Temperatures are comfortable, averaging around 21°C in Kigali, making it another good period for outdoor activities and wildlife tours.
- Best Time to Travel: June to September is the ideal season for gorilla trekking and wildlife safaris due to the dry weather. December to February is also a good window for travel with pleasant conditions.
