WEATHER
Laos has a tropical monsoon climate, with a distinct wet season and dry season. The mountainous terrain keeps temperatures moderate in higher elevations, while lowland areas remain hot and humid.
- Spring (March to May): Spring in Laos is the hot dry season, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 38°C. Humidity increases toward May, making the air feel even warmer. It’s a good time to explore northern highlands like Luang Prabang before the rains begin, though central and southern areas can be sweltering.
- Summer (June to August): This is the wet season, with frequent tropical downpours and high humidity. Temperatures hover between 24°C and 32°C. Rain usually falls in short, heavy bursts in the late afternoon or evening. Lush green landscapes and fewer tourists make it a beautiful time to visit if you’re prepared for the rain.
- Autumn (September to November): As the rains ease, the landscape remains green and vibrant. Temperatures begin to cool, ranging from 22°C to 30°C. Rivers are full, making this an excellent time for boat travel and scenic countryside exploration.
- Winter (December to February): Winter is the dry and cool season, with average highs between 20°C and 28°C and cooler nights, especially in mountainous areas. It’s the most popular season to visit, with comfortable weather for hiking, sightseeing, and cultural experiences across the country.
- Best Time to Travel: The best time to visit Laos is during the dry season from November to February, when the weather is cooler and ideal for outdoor adventures. March to early May is also suitable for northern travel before the rains arrive.
