For all you arachnophobes out there, Christmas in Ukraine might just not be your thing, as it’s custom to have spider web ornaments in your Christmas tree. They represent hard times, hope and good fortune; rather appropriate in 2020. Legend tells of a very poor family wanting a Christmas Tree so they sprouted a tree from a seed and looked after it for the whole year to celebrate. Unfortunately with no money for decorations that tree was bare, so on Christmas Eve the household spiders who heard the cries of the sad children, decorated the tree with beautiful and intricate webs. The next morning as the sunlight shone upon the tree the web transformed into silver and gold strands and they were never poor again.
Since there are spiders that do cover entire trees in web, may your spider web turn to silver and gold!
