Sometimes the simplicity of civil engineering can take a mundane project and turn into one of the most spectacular views in the world. Atlanterhavsveien or the Atlantic Road in Norway is testament to this. This extraordinary 8.2 km road links the villages of Karvag to Bud to an archipelago of islands and skerries, with an array of bridges one more splendid than the other.
The road seems to play in the treacherous Norwegian sea as it arches, dips and twists like a sea snake playing in the waves.
