Forget fairy tales: in Belgium’s De Schorre Provincial Recreation Park near Boom, seven giant wooden trolls wait hidden in the forest to be discovered.

Towering up to 18 metres above the woodland floor, these awe-inspiring sculptures emerge from between the trees as though they’ve always belonged there. Created by renowned Danish artist Thomas Dambo, each troll has its own name, personality and story, making every encounter feel like stepping into a real-life fantasy.

Rather than placing the trolls together, they’re hidden throughout the park, encouraging visitors to explore the winding trails in search of each one. Keep an eye out for Hannes, who loves stacking stones, Arvid, who carves giant totem poles, and Mikil, who can be found relaxing amongst the trees. Every discovery reveals a different character with its own unique charm.

Adding to their appeal, the trolls were built almost entirely from reclaimed wood, old pallets, fallen branches, and other recycled materials. Dambo’s creations show how discarded materials can be transformed into something truly extraordinary while blending seamlessly into their natural surroundings.

Originally created for Tomorrowland’s 15th anniversary in 2019, the trolls have since become one of Belgium’s most enchanting attractions. Finding all seven is a fun adventure that combines nature, creativity, and a little bit of magic, and you may leave wondering if even more mythical creatures are hiding in the forest.
