As the birthplace of Zeus, it is no wonder that Crete with its crystal-clear waters, ancient olive groves and supposed healing air be steeped in mythology. Legend has it that Poseidon gifted a sacrificial bull to Minos, first king of Crete; but he disobeyed. This insolence enraged Poseidon who bewitched Minos’ wife into falling in love with the bull which gave rise to Minotaur a half- man, half- bull, man eating monster. Desperate to protect his people, he tasked Icarus’ father, Daedalus, to build an inescapable labyrinth under the Palace of Knossos..an archaeological site that was recently discovered.
