The 300 kilometre Belize Barrier Reef, which is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, is the second longest barrier reef in the world. The reef also boasts three distinct Caribbean atolls or ring shaped coral reefs: Turneffe Atoll, Glover’s Reef and Lighthouse Reef.
The latter is home to the famous Great Blue Hole, circular in shape and with a diameter of 300 metres it is the largest in the world. Made famous in 1971, when Jacques Cousteau dove its depth, it is now known as one of the top 10 dive bucket list sites of the world.Click edit button to change this text.
