It may come as a surprise, but the capital of Brazil is not in fact Rio de Janeiro but rather Brasilia.  President Kubitschek had the vision to create a new capital that steered away from Brazil’s colonial past and would represent the actual people of Brazil.  The project was entrusted to urban planner Lucio Costas and architect Oscar Niemeyer who together had the vision to create an expansive futuristic city, with distinct lines, rational planning and huge open spaces, something so bold that the world would look on in awe. A city so different that even from above it looks like an aeroplane.

Brasilia and its amazing architectural buildings have since been described by fellow architects as ‘Hauntingly Beautiful” and “Absolutely Magical” and rightfully so
